The word tractor originally comes from the Latin word ´to pull´, with its first recorded usage in 1896. However, being honest, it feels unusual that something coined as recently as 200 or so years ago has grown to reinvent how our entire food system works today.  But how did the tractor come about? And how did it go on to become the powerhouse that it is today?

"Something we don’t talk about often enough at Siromer is how the business is and has always been entirely family-run." Originally founded in 1999 by Jeff Howard, Siromer now spans three generations of the Howard family. Jeff still serves as CEO, while his daughter Louise works as Managing Director. Jeff’s wife, Kath, holds the role of Sales Director. Louise’s son, Orion, who is now 14, has also been lending his hand since 2015. He even helps to build the flatpack tractors!

In this economic climate everyone is tightening their belts, but whilst we are all looking after the pennies to save pounds, it is sometimes easy to forget the other side of the equation. Whilst saving money is fantastic, another great way to ensure financial security is to increase your income. Now we know that increasing income is much easier said than done, but what if we said that there are several easy and affordable ways to boost the income of your smallholding today

Recently one of our lovely long term customers, Mark Purnell, got in touch with us about buying another tractor.  Now, Mark had originally bought a flatpack 204S with us over 18 years ago. By the time the tractor arrived home, it was then christened ‘Tractor Tom’ by his then young children, and later went on to farm over 150 acres over 18 years.  Now that’s what we call bang for your buck!

If I say the word IKEA to you right now, what is your reaction? For some it is horror, for some is it joy, and for some…well they just think of meatballs. Flatpack furniture can be a nightmare, or a dream, it is all in the eye of the beholder. However, what if we said that furniture is not the only thing that comes ‘flatpacked’? Imagine that same sense of accomplishment, but on a much larger scale... Yes, that’s right. Flatpack tractors are not a thing of the future.
