Not only are hedgerows an emblematic feature of the beautiful UK landscape, an incredibly important asset for farming, but also a home to much of our native wildlife.

The word tractor originally comes from the Latin word ´to pull´, with its first recorded usage in 1896. However, being honest, it feels unusual that something coined as recently as 200 or so years ago has grown to reinvent how our entire food system works today.  But how did the tractor come about? And how did it go on to become the powerhouse that it is today?

"Something we don’t talk about often enough at Siromer is how the business is and has always been entirely family-run." Originally founded in 1999 by Jeff Howard, Siromer now spans three generations of the Howard family. Jeff still serves as CEO, while his daughter Louise works as Managing Director. Jeff’s wife, Kath, holds the role of Sales Director. Louise’s son, Orion, who is now 14, has also been lending his hand since 2015. He even helps to build the flatpack tractors!

In this economic climate everyone is tightening their belts, but whilst we are all looking after the pennies to save pounds, it is sometimes easy to forget the other side of the equation. Whilst saving money is fantastic, another great way to ensure financial security is to increase your income. Now we know that increasing income is much easier said than done, but what if we said that there are several easy and affordable ways to boost the income of your smallholding today
