Industrial Tyres – The Versatile All-Rounder

Updated: Jul 14

Need one tyre that can handle a bit of everything? From paddocks and tracks to gravel drives and yard work, industrial tyres are built for versatility.

Originally designed for construction machinery like backhoes and skid-steers, industrial tyres have become a go-to option for compact tractor users who need solid performance across a mix of terrains — without constantly swapping wheels or getting stuck.

What Are Industrial Tyres?

Industrial tyres have a block-style tread pattern that’s shallower than an agricultural tyre but deeper and more aggressive than turf. That gives them enough bite for grip on soft ground while keeping them durable and stable on harder surfaces.

They also tend to have a stronger casing and stiffer sidewalls, meaning they’re ideal for tractors doing loader work or carrying heavier loads.

Where Industrial Tyres Deliver

✔️ Mixed surfaces: Industrials offer a strong compromise — better grip than turf tyres in wet or loose ground, but more turf-friendly than ag tyres.

✔️ Hard-wearing: Their tread design and compound make them longer-lasting on concrete, gravel, or tarmac — ideal for yard work or driving between sites.

✔️ Loader support: Built to handle extra weight, industrial tyres are ideal if you’re running a front loader, log splitter, or pallet forks.

✔️ All-round traction: Whether you’re fencing in the morning or moving hay in the afternoon, industrial tyres will keep you moving without drama.

Where They May Fall Short

Heavy fieldwork: If you’re regularly pulling through deep, wet soil, Ag tyres will still give better grip.

Fine turf work: Indutrials are gentler than Ags, but they can still scuff lawns or wet paddocks if turned too sharply.

More expensive: Compared to Ags, industrial tyres can cost a bit more upfront — though they usually make up for it in lifespan.

Jobs Suited to Industrial Tyres

  • Yard maintenance and loader work

  • Paddock topping and general mowing

  • Fencing and post-driving

  • Transport between field and yard

  • Gravel grading or trailer hauling

If your tractor sees a bit of everything, including time on driveways, field edges, and uneven ground, but with more of a lean towards yard time, industrial tyres often give the best balance between grip, protection, and durability.

A Few Extras Worth Knowing

  • Built to last: The rubber compound in industrial tyres is designed to take a beating — perfect if you regularly work on hardstanding or haul weight.

  • Wide footprint: Offers better floatation than ags and more stability under a loader or on uneven ground.

  • Smart on-site appearance: Block-pattern tread tends to look more modern and “contractor-grade”, which some users prefer.
