Why do Siromer tractors cost so much less than other tractor companies?

a blog banner

So let’s address the elephant in the room…

Siromer tractors are significantly cheaper than many other tractor companies including John Deere, Kubota, Massey Ferguson and many more.

And whilst a lower price is undoubtedly a selling point, we understand this might also leave you with some questions.

There is no such thing as a free lunch after all.

However, here at Siromer, we are all about transparency. So to answer this burning question, we have decided to write this blog today to clear up exactly why our tractors and equipment are more affordable…. and spoiler alert, it has nothing to do with lower quality, reliability or customer service.

So why exactly are Siromer tractors cheaper to buy?

  1. Simpler, practical engineering.

If you have been following Siromer for a while now, you will know that something we talk about a lot is that our machinery is simple engineering done right.

Our tractors don’t include complex electronics, nor are the systems over-engineered. Simply put, the tractors are built to get the job done in the most reliable and easy way possible. We haven’t added 15 different ways to do the same thing. Instead, we have made a conscious effort to cut the fat from most tractor models to leave you with a simple, hardy work-horse of a tractor.

In fact, we’ve made our tractor models so straightforward, that you can even build some models in a flatpack version at home!

If you would like to learn more about our flatpack tractors then check out our blog here.

By avoiding unnecessary complexity we have worked to create models that are not full of tech that is expensive to repair, impossible to DIY and frustrating to use. Instead, we have chosen:

  • Mechanical reliability over unnecessary electronics

  • Clear controls that are easy to understand without a 500 page manual

  • And DIY servicing options with easy access to filters and fittings (meaning you are not relying on a dealer for every little job).

And of course, all of these decisions result in a lower build cost for us at Siromer, and therefore a reduced price for you as a customer.

  1. Proudly manufactured in China.

Siromer have made no mistake in highlighting our roots in China throughout the years, in fact, if you would like to learn more about our Chinese roots then check out our blog here.

And this is something that has not changed in over 25+ years.

Like Apple, Nike, Tesla, Samsung and more,  all of our products are manufactured in China with partner companies to our exacting Siromer specifications. Products are then shipped back to the UK for assembly, checks, prep and of course sale. All support and parts are based in the UK so there is no need to worry about lead time if you require a speedy turnaround for your repair!

Now whilst it may be fairly industry standard to outsource manufacturing to China, it is not industry practice to then reflect this saving in the final sale price of the product. After all, Apple, Nike and Tesla who all sell themselves based on luxury and exclusivity are not famed for their affordability!

And this is where Siromer is different. With our manufacturing costs being lower, this saving is then directly passed on to you as our customer via our lower sale price.

Our pricing, like our tractors, are what it says on the tin. No sneaky tactics. No false exclusivity. Just great machinery.

  1. Reduced advertising and sponsorship cost

Whilst our manufacturing practices may be similar, this is where similarities to brands like Nike, Tesla and Apple end here at Siromer.

Now credit where credit is due- one of the things that these companies do a fantastic job of is advertising

Just look at Apple with their cultlike following of customers waiting in lines at the launch of every new product.

And this type of following is not achieved by accident.

This cultivation of a certain image, of this cool, exclusive and trendy brand built for those that think differently, is very deliberate and achieved through the likes of massive television advertisement, sponsorships and brand deals.

And unsurprisingly, that is reflected in the final cost for you as a consumer.

Don’t believe us?

Just take a look at the price of the new macbook…

Now, at Siromer, whilst we can respect the hustle, this simply is not how we play the game.

Siromer is not paying for huge sponsorships, TV campaigns or massive deal margin structures.

We know that our product is good.

We don’t need to pay for advertising when we know that our word-of-mouth advertising is much more powerful. Think more show than tell.

And at the end of the day this type of practice trickled down back to our customers. After all, it’s no secret that big advertising is expensive and massively raises costs. And by cutting these expenses we are able to put more money back into the product and the customer experience to ensure that instead of paying to sell you a dream, we are here to deliver every time.

  1. Focused, intentional spec rather than luxury extras as standard

Here at Siromer we do not want to be a bluetooth toothbrush

We all know a product like this.

You just want something to brush your teeth, but now suddenly you need to download yet another app on your phone, make a password you won’t remember, and read a surprisingly long manual to even work out the basics.

Getting a whiter smile should never be this complicated!

And neither should working a tractor!

At Siromer, we have not got distracted with unnecessary complexity, or luxury that no-one actually asked for, instead we have included the features that customers actually want.

By focusing heavily on customer feedback, we add or nix features as they suit the real life of a smallholding. So that means features like radios, windscreen wipers, aircon and central heating as standard in all cabs. These small details make the difference, but the real kicker here is about being able to differentiate the functional from the vanity features.

And by cutting luxuries that few actually use we are able to offer the models for a lower cost simply because manufacturing costs become lower.

  1. A streamline product range

The MK50 in all of it's colour choices!
The MK50 in all of it's colour choices!

And speaking of intentional design, by reducing our product catalogue to fewer models with less complexity within the range itself this has allowed us to keep our development lean.

With a reduced number of actual machines being sold this not only allows us to spend less on stocking parts, and on training our staff to construct, repair, service the models, but it also means less money going into the development process which would typically involve  upgrades and improvements for current models and the development of newer models.

At Siromer we like to think that we have a focused and functional range of tractors and equipment for all needs without being overwhelming. With 1 tractor for each HP class, and select equipment per function we have made our catalogue streamlined and stress free to choose from.

  1. A lean business model

the siromer family celebrating 25 years
The Siromer family celebrating 25 years

And last but not least, our final reason for why we are able to offer our products at a fraction of the price of bigger brands relies on our lean business model.

By keeping the business small, clean and lean we simply have lower overheads than bigger brands. Larger brands pricing structures will have to cover the cost of massive corporate overhead, huge global dealer networks and brand premiums.

Siromer runs leaner by choice to allow us to pivot, keep things simple, and also keep costs low for our final product.

Additionally, as a family brand it is important for us to remain loyal to our values and core structures, and by remaining lean and a little smaller, this allows us to keep true to the heart of Siromer.

And for all these 6 reasons above (simple engineering, a focused product range, Chinese manufacturing, reduced advertising cost, focused spec, and a lean business model) Siromer tractors are able to sell at a much cheaper price than larger competitors. And this is all by design…

A siromer tractor in a muddy field

The bottom line is not the only bottom line

As smallholders ourselves, it’s always been of really high importance to us to be able to produce great quality and affordable machinery for people, well…like us.

Your average smallholder probably can’t afford to drop over £50,000 on a runaround tractor. And this prices a large majority of people out of having a much easier and enjoyable experience managing their grounds.

At Siromer we believe that everyone should have the option to work smart, not hard. And because of this, we have always fought hard to keep our final cost competitive for customers.

Our slogan ‘Siromer. With you every turn of the wheel’ is not just a catchy gimmick. We truly aspire to be a company who you are able to turn to to rely on all of your smallholding’s needs at every step in your journey, whether that be with a small starter tractor, or even larger bits of kit such as our J80 model. And as part of that journey it is important that we keep things as accessible as possible whether that be through how the models work, our transparency with our process, and of course the cost.
