Top 5 Signs Your Tractor Is Due a Service | Siromer Maintenance Guide

ree

A well-looked-after tractor should start easily, run smoothly and respond quickly.

If yours starts feeling tired or temperamental, it’s probably telling you something.

Here are the five clearest signs your Siromer needs a service, and what you can do to fix them fast.

1️⃣ Hard Starting

Struggling to start on cold mornings? That’s often the first clue. Old fuel filters, weak glow plugs, or degraded oil can all make cold starts harder. If you’re having to turn the key more than once, it could be time for fresh filters and oil. For the 200S, 204S, 304, 204E, 244E and 354E new preheaters/glowplugs can be found here.

2️⃣ Dark or Smoky Exhaust

A healthy engine burns clean. Black or grey smoke means fuel isn’t burning properly, usually because of a dirty air filter, old diesel, or overdue fuel-filter change. Blue smoke can be a sign of your injectors being faulty. White smoke on startup can point to low compression or moisture in the fuel. Either way, a quick service clears the issue before it builds into something bigger.

3️⃣ Slow Hydraulics or Jerky Loader Movement

If the loader arms twitch, or the 3-point linkage struggles to lift, the hydraulic oil may be contaminated or low. At 250 hours, hydraulic fluid and filters should be replaced. How clean is your fluid? Ignoring this can cause pump wear or seal failure, a much more expensive fix later.

4️⃣ Unusual Noises or Vibration

Knocking, grinding or rattling during work often points to loose bolts or worn mounts. Sometimes it’s as simple as greasing joints or tightening fittings. If it persists after greasing, get in touch, Siromer engineers can help identify the cause before any damage spreads.

5️⃣ Leaks and Low Fluid Levels

Fresh drips on the floor? Milky hydraulic oil? Any sign of leakage or fluid change means seals are under stress or water has entered a system. Check your coolant, gearbox, and axle oils, if any are low or cloudy, drain and refill immediately.

Bonus: Trust Your Instincts

You know your tractor best. If it feels sluggish, smells unusual, or just “off,” don’t ignore it. Early servicing is always cheaper than repairs.

Keep Your Service Log Updated

After fixing the issue, note the date and hours in your service log. It proves care, helps resale value, and keeps your maintenance plan on track.
